Etude House Ice Tint Balm Summer 2014 Launch

What's more appropriate for summer than cold, refreshing ice? Guess that's what was on Etude House's mind when they created these babies.

I'm kinda late to jump and try this one, as I am still in love with my Revlon balm stains. But hey, since we are having 365 days of summer each year where I live, one more cool balm wont hurt... Especially that Etude offer quite a good variety of color too... I'm lusting the pink PK001. What about you?

Kose Nature & Co. Three Butters Lip Balm

This tiny baby comes from Nature & Co., natural-themed brand from Japanese giant, Kose. Right now, Nature & Co. offers 5 lines of products: Pure White, Vital Purity, Mint & Tea, Three Butters and Honey Blend. Of course, each line is dedicated to certain problem/needs of your skin or hair. Three butters has both face and body care products.

Meant for delicate, sensitive lips, the balm is packed with many natural ingredients like olive oil, safflower, cocoa seed oil and shea butter. Some of these ingredients are organic too.

First, I don’t need another lipbalm…. But I picked this up… since I adore the packaging so much. The small 5.8 gr brown jar is vintage looking and pretty. It is made of light plastic, yet feels hard and sturdy.

The balm itself is hard yet glossy. It melts upon contact with skin, so you don’t have to dig deep to get the balm. I find little goes along way, since it is so glossy. Unlike my trusty badger balm, I don’t think this is suitable for lipstick base… again, since it is glossy. To be used on top of the lippie, it is suitable.

Even though the packaging listed fragrance, I didn’t smell or taste discernable fragrance or taste. There is faint herby smell, but I wont detect it unless I bury my nose in the jar.

I rarely use balm/gloss on top of my lippie. So, I wont use this as much as other more base-suitable balms I own. However, I found that it made excellent cuticle balm and elbow balm. My dry patchy elbow loves this balm! Plus, due to the small size, I don’t feel guilty chucking it in my cosmetic pouch.

Bottomline,
Another nice addition for my pouch. I like it as cuticle and elbow balm, but I don’t like it that much that I would repurchase.

The Body Shop Pure natural Lip Roll On in Rose

I cant say no when I see ‘rose’…

This flavored roll on balm is supposed to moisturize and leave lips soft with no tacky waxy feel. Of course, made with 100% natural ingredients.
Here’s the list…rinicus communis seed oil, glycine soja oil, lanolin, helianthus annuus seed oil, olea eurupeaea fruit oil, aroma, helianthus annuus seed waz, aqua, tocopherol, persea gratissima oil, prunis amydalus dulcis oil, sammondsia chinensis seed oil, stevia rebaudiana leaf/stem extract, linalool, citronellol, geraniol, citral, limonene, citric acid.

Basically: castor oil, sunflower wax and oil, avocado oil, olive oil, almond oil amongst others. I don’t fancy castor oil feeling on my lips… had I known there’s castor oil in there, I don’t think I will purchase this.

Packaged in plastic tube with roll on top, this is practical. Yet, I have bad experiences with roll on stuff… so I am kinda worried to have this in my bag.

The product itself is textured like light lip gloss. It goes on clear and makes my lips look glossy. Is it moisturizing? Not moisturizing enough for me. I still prefer my traditional lip balm…

Bottomline…
I wont repurchase, give me my regular lip balm please…

Therapind Oil Bar

Lip balm is the last thing on my mind when I spotted this in Sasa Taipei. It thought it is some kind of aromatherapy solid fragrance or massage bar. After some research in the internet, I just realized, I picked up a lip balm!

I liked the packaging-very pretty! The blue one I picked (recalled a few other colors), has minty flavor and scent. It glides easily on my lips and leaves fresh minty-tingle feeling. Too bad, it is not very moisturizing and I have to re apply every hour or so.
Bottomline… I wont purchase any of these again. Prefer my eos lipbalm…

And so... I returned to the mall and grabbed two more shades of the lovely Lip Butters... here goes...

Sweet Tart...
 and Cherry Tart...

Cherry tart has tiny silver shimmer that's unnoticable when applied. just like other Lip Butter formulas, they glides easily and feels comfortable.

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in 075 Lollipop and 015 Tutti Frutti

I’ve seen many positively glowing reviews of Revlon’s new Lip Butters in the net, mostly from American sites & blogs. I have been looking forward to get my hands on these when friends/family goes to the US- I nearly cant believe my eyes when I saw Lip Butter poster & display on Watson’s in Jakarta !!! It has arrived!
Now, I’ve been a fan of COlorburst range lippies & glosses in the past years. I don’t think twice and grab 2 lovely colors from the Lip Butter range – tangerine coral Tutti Fruity and magenta pink Lollipop. Was tempted to grab them all, but I decided to try 2 colors first.
Nice thing about the packaging is the clear frosty plastic cap-with matching colors! No more opening every single lipstick tube to find the color I wanted to wear! Tube is entirely made of plastic, but it is in no way flimsy.
The rave reviews in beauty blogs across USA is true… this feels like balm, taste like nothing! Wonderful! Nicely moisturizing and it glides lightly and nicely on my lips. The colors are sheer with glossy shiny finish, but buildable. Some colors (like Tutti Frutti) has no shimmer, while other (like Lollipop) features light shimmer.

I still cant believe how lovely this feels on my dry lips! Very balmy. Just like most balms, this one doesn’t last very long on my lips. About 1-2 hours with my regular tea sipping n occasional light snacking. The color will fade and leave a light veil of tint on my lips. It is easily removed too -  light swipe/blot with tissue will lift all the tint and it doesn’t leave stain.
I am in love… totally going to return to that Watsons’ and grab other colors!

Banila co. the Kissest Plumping tinted stick in LOVE

Banila co. Entered my radar only recently, since it doesn’t have any shop in Singapore. But the products looks pretty and I just cant resist to grab some...

The name says it all... it is lightly tinted balm which promises more plump lips. Sounds good...
I do think the packaging is so chic... chic plastic neon pink, without looking cheap.
The texture is totally comfortable... just like your regular lip balm with mint fragrance and taste. The Kissest is not as moisturizing as regular balm, but still more moisturizing than regular lipstick.
The fragrance is not so strong, but the taste it kinda strong. And you can feel slight tingle on your lips after applying.
The color is sheer pretty pink which I do think will suit nearly anyone. It stains my lip a little, leaving lovely pink color.
Is it really plumping? Erm.. a little bit... just a little bit. I don’t think the plumping action is really noticeable.
Minimal plumping aside, this balm is comfortable to wear and I just adore the color. like the color so much... I think I will grab another color!
In summary..
Packaging: light plastic tube with neon colors
COlor offerings: 3 colors- 2 shade of pinks and one tangerie
Texture:  similar to lip balm
Staying power: lasts about 3-4 hours (thanks to the staining property)
Is it worth it?
Yes if... you like tinted balm, you want sheer colors
No if... you cant stand fragranced products, your lips are sensitive to plumping product

Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm in Sweet Orange

Oh, I cant believe I haven’t post this favourite of mine!

My first encounter with this American, organic brand was ... an organic restaurant! Of course, the cute badger on the packaging was the one that’s really calling me. My first purchase was Badger Winter Wonder Balm. It was totally lovely and become my staple soon after.

Too bad, not so long after I got addicted to the balms, the restaurant decided not to sell them anymore. This forces me to get my stock from the internet – http://www.uncommonscents.com . and this was where I saw the lip balm and decided to try.
As you can see ... the packaging was really cute with the badger in the front. It is made of plastic – light and simple.

The package which I got contains Lime Rocket, Sweet Orange and Creamy Cocoa. The texture of the balm is just nice on my lips, not too light not too heavy. It is not flavoured, just lightly scented. Nice scent I must add – all Badger products which I tried were wonderfully scented anyway...

The color appears yellowish in the container, but applies clear on lips.

I am using this as lip treatment when my lip feels ultra dry, to prep my lips before applying lipsticks .... and sometime as cuticle balm too. I know... it sounds crazy, but it works well for me.

With the nice price... This product is totally very ultra worth every penny!

I am soooo loving this product!

Nothing goes to waste everytime I purchase stuff from Badger... I love the box so much, I don’t have the heart to throw it away... I am using it as...

My brush container! Dont you just adore that badger?

In Summary...
Packaging: simple plastic with ultra cute badger as the poster boy/gal
Price: USD 13 for a pack of 3
Texture: just nice 
Is it worth it?
Yes If.... you love lightly fragranced lip balm
No if... you don’t like shopping online (for those in Asia)

Note:
I just realize some specialty mom and baby shops in Singapore carries limited Badger products. Most shops sells the balms only, not the lip balm.

Les Soins Bio Plante System Nourishing Lip care

As usual, the non-standard packaging caught my attention. The name is mouthful and I’m sure I can’t even pronounce it correctly.
The outer shell is made from paper, but the inside is plastic with clear plastic cap on top. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, throw this tiny plastic cap. As I found out after few days, the paper top is so loose it is almost always not doing its job. This lip balm is definitely not for the handbag.
The brochure says Arkopharma from France has been around for 30 years, making skin care products from plant extracts. This Plante System range are Ecocert certified with 95% plants. Fragrance is natural and it is paraben free, phenoxythenol free and not tested on animals. What more can I ask from a simple lip balm?
I saw 4 options from Plante System range in the shop: Nourishing, Anti Ageing, Colored and Repairing. This Nourishing care balm contains beeswax, sesame oil, argan oil, shea butter and vanilla natural fragrance. The argan oil, especially, is supposed to nourish my lips.
The texture is balmy and not glossy upon application. I kind of like the texture, except it feels slightly heavier than my regular Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm. It has soft vanilla fragrance, detectable only during application.
Aside from the always-loose cap, I find difficulty with the sheer huge size of the balm stick. Kinda hard to apply for me.
I kinda like this one, as it feels nice on my lips...unfortunately the packaging is just too troublesome. This one will become resident bed-side table lip balm.
Packaging: paper on the outer, plastic inside. Very loose cap.
Collateral Damage: SGD 19.9
Texture: balmy, non glossy
Moisturizing: 4/5
Is it worth it?
Yes if... you like moisturizing lip care
No if... you want to carry your lippie in your purse (the cap is tad loose, I guarantee it drop off sooner)

L’oreal Color Riche Nutri Shine in Pink Rose P120

Not so long time ago, I adopted L’oreal Color Riche Nutri Shine in CR101 (swatch here) , which is sheer and shimmery pale coral. I am loving the formula so much, I just have to drop by L’oreal display every time I pass by the drugstore. I need one color of each family...one pink, one red, one beige...

Hey! Stay sane... one baby step at a time... let’s start with Pink, the Coral looks so lonely sitting alone in my drawer...

P120 is sheer pink with soft shimmer. Glides smoothly on my lips, without gritty feeling from the shimmer. The formula and lasting power is similar to CR101. Ahhh ... love...

Red, you better pack your bags, your sisters are waiting in my lipstick drawer :D

In summary...
Packaging: light plastic. I still don’t adore it, but don’t judge a lipstick by its packing, right?
Color offering: 4/5
Price: SGD 19.9
Texture: glides smoothly like lip balm *heart*
Moisturizing: 4/5
Staying power: approx 2 hours with drinks in between
Is it worth it?
Yes if... you like balm that double up as sheer lip color, you love subtle shimmer
No if... you want your lippie to show more pigment.

L’oreal Color Riche Nutri Shine Lipstick in Pink Nude CR 101

This lipstick/lip balm is amazing... I cant seem to make up my mind how to categorize this thing. The color is rather sheer pink-coral, with a little silver/clear glitter. I find all the shades I tried in my local drugstore to behave similarly. Certainly buildable, but do not expect it to turn opaque. The swatch on the left is made of single swipe, the one on the right is 3-4 swipes.

The packaging is slightly different than other lipsticks, but it looks kinda plasticky and the surface is slightly uneven...which unfortunately makes it looks cheap.

The product inside, on the other hand, is heavenly... glides like lip balm but it colors my lips wish smooth sheer nice color. On my dry dry dry lips, it is not drying at all! A little moisturizing, and certainly not drying. I am hooked. This has become one of my purse’s resident lipstick for a few weeks now.

It doesn’t last very long on lips, about 1-2 hours, but I don’t mind reapplying, as it makes my lips feels nice.

I couldn’t detect any scent in this product. Which is OK to me, as I am not too particular about scent, except strong plasticky/waxy scent you can sniff miles away from older generation cheaper lipsticks...

The color range is rather nice, L’oreal offers pinks, corals, browns and reds too. All sheer, of course.

In summary...
Packaging: light plastic...I don’t personally fancy it.
Color offering: 4/5
Price: SGD 19.9
Texture: glides smoothly like lip balm *heart*
Moisturizing: 4/5
Staying power: approx 2 hours with drinks in between
Will I buy more? When I finish this one, I will. I am considering the pinks now... hmmm....
