Vichy Capital Soleil Suncare Oil SPF 20

I still clearly remember... when I was a kid, I hate any kind of suncare precautions. I would try my best to avoid my mom slathering them on to my skin before playing in the poor or beach. I will refuse to wear cover-ups after swimming. And every, single, time... I paid for it dearly... my skin turned red and painful... bye bye swimming pool, hello sunburn.

Oh... but getting sunburnt skin is not my only problem... my hair got 'sunburnt' too!

It will get so frizzy and tangled and ... almost crispy. Plus... my hair will get lightened... not in a good beach blonde way. Washing my hair apres swimming is a real pain... tangle tangle tangle...

Recently though, I have found myself a solution! Vichy Capital Soleil Suncare Oil SPF 20. (They do SPF 40 too... but when I got it, the shop only have SPF 20 left).
Vichy is a French brand that you can get easily in European pharmacist (seen them in France and Italy at least). Like most french brands sold in pharmacies, they are focused more on skincare then make up.
Yes, Vichy's website mentioned that this is meant for skin, but I like to experiment with my beauty oils. On skin, it makes my skin looks well hydrated, but not too oily. It has light floral fragrance which doesnt compete with my cologne.

But, I found its wonder on my hair... before swimming in the sea, I would apply this oil liberally on my hair. really liberally... the result... after whole day of swimming, my hair is easier to manage ... less tangles in the shower, easier during brushing. I am loving it. Yes, oil slicked hair might not be everyone's cup of tea. But you will love the result when you shower... and your hair will be wet from swimming anyway...

Usually I love heavy glass bottles, but this time, I am super glad with this light plastic bottle. And the spray format is just so handy... application on skin and hair is super easy. Plus, I can simply throw it in my beach bag and not worry about it spilling or broken in my bag.

Bottomline:
This bottle has been my hair savior this summer. highly recommend it!

Caudalie Divine Oil

This is by no means a new product... let's just say i've re-discovered it.

I always love oils, especially dry oils. why? I can use it in many many ways.

Lately my hair ends has been suffering more than usual... oh well.. beside straightening my hair, these days I often dye it too. my LUSH R&B has been working over time... and I guess it is time to give my hair rest from it. I believe in switching products as hair needs changes ... doenst mean that I fell out of love with it... just 'taking time off' ... if it makes sense.

With that... enters Caudalie Divine Oil. I first discovered it during a trip to France. French pharmacies are like Disneyland ... arrays of skincare stuff... so many creams... so many oils... so many... many many things... One that stood up was this pretty bottle of Divine Oil from Caudalie. I usually use Nuxe's dry oil... but being me... I just have to try new product!

The oil is lovely, light and wonderfully fragranced with white floral fragrance. Soft, not overpowering... almost calming to my nose. The website mentioned that it is made of blends of wonderful oils... grape, hibiscus, sesame and argan. plus... they thrown in polyphenol anti-oxidants too. Plus... Caudalie will plant a tree for every bottle sold!

Enough marketing... let's go to the juice inside the bottle... The oil is easily absorbed by damp skin and towel dried hair... and my hair has been looking better with little mix of divine oil in my regime. Sometime I apply it alone after towel drying my hair or mix it with pea sized Lush R&B. I think it helps 'seals' in the moisture from Lush R&B and of course, adds gloss on my lackluster hair...

On dry hair, it makes my hair look oily. i usually mix with water or hair treatment water like this Lucido-L spray

For those with softer hair , I guess massaging in a single spray on towel dried hair is enough in order not to weigh down the hair too much.

My skin is loving this oil too! again, in my opinion, it is best applied on towel dried skin. This oil has saved my skin during winter! after bath, i would apply it liberally before towel drying, massaging in slowly while enjoying the lovely fragrance. then I would apply my body butter/creams as usual.

One thing that makes this bottle of oil stands up is the design! i just love the substantial feeling of the glass bottle with grape bunch silhouette stamped on the bottle, pretty on the eye, but makes holding and spraying the bottle with wet/damp hand easier. and the cap... i just adore the wooden-inspired cap. not wooden, but totally looks like wooden cap. pretty pretty!

Bottomline:
dry skin/dry hair savior for me with wonderful soft fragrance and pretty bottle. a must try!

Agnes B Rouge B Perfect ! Lipstick in 686 Fraise Nacree

I was delighted to find Agnes B make up line in my local Monoprix! On the display were arrays of cute little lippie, eye shadows, palette, eye liners and even nail polish. With such sensible price point, I cant resist picking up another lipstick…

Agnes B brand formerly sells bas, accessories and clothes. Recently ( few years back?), the brand started selling make up. This lippie which I picked up promises comfort with voluptuous color! Yum… in the shop I saw quite wide range of color and texture… from nude beige to vampy red. Depending on the color, the lippies might have shimmery or semi matte finish.

First, I am loving the cuteness of this lippie… so small it will fit in to any bag. It houses 3.8 gr of product.
The lipstick itself is very easy to apply, it glides smoothly without being overly creamy or melty. Pigmentation is the way I want my lipstick to be, one swipe delivers perfect color on my lips. It has light floral fragrance, it is not overly remarkable.

Fraise Nacre is sweet sheer pinkish coral with shimmer. In the beginning itt feels comfortable on my lips, however as time progresses, I feel slight dryness. But to be fair, my lips is dry, so, unless the lipstick is super moisturizing, my lips will dry out.  As it is pretty glossy and slippery, it doesn’t last very long on me. The pigment got transferred easily on my cup rim.

Bottomline...
I do think this will suit travelling ladies, mainly for the small size. color selection is pretty good as well, I just wish some colors come in few textures…

Rouge Baiser Paris Rouge Mythique Palette

Rouge Baiser is a classic make up brand from, well, Paris – as te name suggests. Their forte is the kiss proof lipstick formula. Of course, when I purchased this palette in Monoprix Paris, I didn’t know this yet. I was more interested in the pretty black and white ink sketches on the packaging. Only the lips of the pretty illustrations are painted in seductive luscious red.

The sketches however, doesn’t appear in the palette itself. The palette material is shiny patent leather like pretty red, just like the lips of the sketches. The compact box is wrapped in black velvet pouch – making it look expensive! Main material of the palette is plastic with magnetic closure.

Inside, I got small mirror, face powder, 2 blushes, 4 lipglosses, 12 eye shadows, dual ended sponge applicator, lip brush and mini powder brush. Very complete for such a small palette.

The powder and blush is fine textured. The face powder though, will be too light for deeper skinned beauties, as the powder is not translucent. The blushes are pretty tan with golden shimmer and tan with a dash of mauve with golden shimmer. The shimmer is not very visible once blended to the skin. They are pigmented and stays pretty much the whole day on me. These colors must be worn lightly, as they are pretty pigmented.  I like to wear the tan as eyeshadow, as I don’t contour my face too much.

The glosses are sheer and balmy, I recommend to warm the product first by placing your finger tip on top of the gloss before applying. I find this method makes it easier for me to pick up color. The colors are plum, warm red, cool red and nude. These are very nude and gives off glossy finish. I am liking all the colors and find they are super wearable.

The main star of the palette for me is the eyeshadows! they are pigmented and wonderfully textured. Super easy to blend too! Shadows on top row are ivory, warm bronze, taupe and black. The middle row is warm green themed: starting with pearl, warm leaf green, deep olive and  greenish deep brown. Last row is plum themed: pastel lavender, deep cold lavender, deep black-purple and pinkish plum. All have shimmery finish. This is super easy to use, mix and match for all skin color. I am loving it!

I am definitely going to check out more products from Rouge Baisier. The price point is very reasonable and the brand is readily available in Monoprix Paris. Give it a try if you drop by in Paris.

Roger & Gallet Huile Sublime Bois D’orange

I am loving my oils these days. Dry oils, layered with my regular body butter has been my skin-saver this winter. And I am exploring more dry oil variations these days.

Roger & Gallet is French brand famous for their toilet soaps. They are scented and super lovely, reminded me of my childhood soaps... You can easily get Roger & Gallet products in various pharmacies and supermarket , like Monoprix, in France.

This dry oil contains 6 active plants oil with softening and nourishing properties. Also enriched with orange essential oil and vitamin E to make your skin soft, supple and satin smooth.

First, the fragrance… it is lovely sweet orange with woodsy base. I am loving it. Always freshened me up!
The oil is also lovely, silicone free and easily absorbed by my thirsty skin. But the soothing effect doesn’t last as long to me, I feel the need of topping up with more oil after a few hours. Comparing dry oils I tried so far, I still prefer Nuxe and Caudalie for their more moisturizing properties.  Amidst this dry winter weather, this is not moisturizing enough for me. But it might be a favorite when I am back in the tropics.

What I love the most from this baby is the packaging. No, not cutesy packaging, but the practical spray top and small, well decorated glass bottle. It fits into my travelling bag nicely.

Bottomline,
Super practical and pretty bottle for travelling. Not moisturizing enough for winter, but might be perfect for more humid summer days!

Pantone Color of The Year 2013 - Emerald

After 2012’s highly successful Tangerine Tango, Pantone has announced 2013 color of the year… Emerald!

I personally find Emerald super easy to work with… it is cheerful enough for spring/summer outfit and makes you get noticed during grey cooler months. To tone it down, pair up with beige or navy. When I feel like adding splash of color, I pair my emerald with a little sunflower. Emerald is one of those versatile colors which make both silver and gold jewelries pop equally.

In my beauty beauty & make up universe, I loved a little emerald eye liner in rotation with my staple jet black – like Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Covet. Or, apply little green eye shadows from Lancome’s Color Design 5 Palette in Vert Tendresse.

My personal Asian drugstore pick would be Kanebo Kate’s Eye Blend Zone Eye Shadow palette in GN-1 and Majolica Majorca Jeweling Eyes palette in GR 780.

Nails… ah… there are thousands, if not millions, of gorgeous emeralds out there- in variety of finish too! Like China Glaze Exotic Encounter if you like crème or China Glaze Deviantly Daring for duochrome lovers.

So, are you going to embrace emerald next year?

Beauty 911 - Beauty Oils

One item which I never ever leave out from my travelling pouch is, obviously, beauty oils. I always have spot for a tiny bottle of baby oil. When I have extra space, I squeeze in dry oils such as Nuxe Huile Prodigiuse or The Body Shop Beautifying Oil.

(picture from johnsonsbaby.com)

Not once or twice did one of my oil collections safe me from beauty 911.
Let’s start from the top: hair. I applied baby oil on my split ends when once I ran out of conditioner. Just beware, baby oil overdose will make your hair appear greasy, apply one little drop at a time. I find dry oil to be less greasy to the hair.  Work it always from tip, allowing each oil drop to get absorbed before adding more. I never apply oil nearby my scalp, for simple reason, I don’t want to look like a wet rat.

(picture from fr.nuxe.com)
Not a surprise here, oils are fantastic 911 moisturizer. I like to use it after bath before towel drying my skin. Apply generously over wet skin; then dry your skin with towel as usual. This will make skin feels less oily, but just nicely moisturized- especially when you are using baby oil.
(picture from thebodyshop.co.uk)
I love a little dry oil for my cuticles too. Little goes long way here, unless you fancy oily fingertips.
Last but not least, my favourite way to use oils... as make up remover. Of course; don’t slather your face with it. Dip your cotton ball or Qtips and wipe... voila... make up gone! For more stubborn stuff, like waterproof mascara or MAC liquidlast eye liner, apply the oil lightly and let it rest for 5-10 seconds, then slowly massage to dissolve the pigment residue. Wipe with tissue paper to absorb the oil, then wash with facial cleanser as usual.
One thing I wont use my baby oil for is... face moisturizer. I don’t think baby oil is as easily absorbed by facial skin than body skin. Moreover, some might find the main ingredient, mineral oil, might be irritating for more sensitive skin.
Bottomline... always have a tiny bottle of your favourite beauty oil in your luggage!

Vrai Argan Oil

I tend to shy away from argan oil products since I consider it too expensive and my experience with argan oil products hasnt been satisfactory recently.

So, when my parents brought me Vrai Argan Oil from Fragonard Paris last month, I just tried a shy single pump on my skin and leave the bottle on my desk. Pretty much untouched, since I have other body oils on rotation.

But yesterday, I was running out of my regular Etude House hair essence, which I always apply prior to straight ironing. at times combined with Ma Cherie milk. In desperate effort to find replacement, I stumbled upon white minimalistic Vrai Argan Oil bottle. I applied it on my towel dried hair then go on straight ironing (no Ma Cherie milk here). To my delight... it worked very well. My hair feels less dry and more smooth to touch.

Vrai Argan oil is fragranced with fresh citrusy fragrance. It is not as thick as other argan oil products I tried. Clear, light (but not as light as dry oils) and fresh oil. It got absorbed easily. Those who dont like fragrance, dont worry, the pleaseant smell pretty much disappear in few minutes upon application

According to the bottle, this oil can be used on body also. But I find exceptional result when used on my hair, not skin. On skin, I still prefer dry oils like Nuxe.

Unfortunately, I cant point to you where to get this in other countries outside France, since I dont think Fragonard has shop outside France. Prior to Vrai, I know Fragonard for their fragrances.

Bottomline,
I would highly reccomend this for those with dried, fried, baked hair. This one is my staple now.

However, I dont think I would reccomend this for those with oily hair...might be too sticky/oily.

Things I finished this month...

No doubt I am a self confessed product hoarder. I like to try new stuff and tend not to finish them. Yet, I also buy numerous repurchases of stuff I really like. So, when i do finish something, especially those random purchases, I am so proud of myself... So, drumroll please... These are stuff I finished this month!!!

Sasatinnie magic fairy aloe Vera and tea tree mask

okay, this is not thing I'm proud of, since a box only contain 3 sheets. The mask is traditional Asian sheet mask from non woven material, soaked in serum/ essence. The material in this mask is thicker than my usual My Beauty Diary masks. It smells like tea tree and feels soothing when worn. The mask contains ingredients like moisturizing aloe, blemish reducing-pore minimizing-sebum secretion balancing tea tree and pore minimizing-anti blemish-anti oxidation edelweiss. The aloe and edelweiss is claimed to be of organic origin. As with most oil balancing mask i've tried, this doesn't really help my oily t zone. But I do enjoy the soothing, cooling feeling when wearing this mask.

Cussons first years nourishing stretch mark cream

not like I need stretch mark cream. I got this as part of cussons first years box I purchased during a boring day. I do end up with most useless purchases during boring days... Anyways, it is light and easily absorbed. But not moisturizing enough for me. May be because it is designed for stretch mark, but not moisturizing? I do liked the fragrance in this cussons first years series thou.. Light airy fruity floral. Just enjoyable.

Tony moly red appletox honey cream

another purchase I made just because I can't resist the cute apple shaped jar. The cream contains apple, honey and collagen to Moisturize and enhance elasticity of skin.It is recommended for tired, dehydrated sensitive skin. Don't expect cream here, you are getting gel with honey consistency. It even comes with a tiny spatula to take the product from the jar. I find it too moisturizing, borderline sticky for my combination face skin. Since I don't want to waste it, I ended up using it for my hands. But it is not moisturizing enough for my dry hands. feels like the gel just sits on top and does nothing. I'm glad I'm done with the content and now, i can clean the cute apple shaped jar up and use it to store my tiny trinkets.

Kose Cosmeport Rose of Heaven Hand Cream

Seems like I finished a few creams this month! I still remember this cream being so fragrant, however, the fragrance doesnt last very long, as last I applied it, the fragrance has subdued to light sweetened rose scent. I do like the sweetened rose scent, but I expect longer lasting perfume on my hand creams. The texture itself is enjoyable, easily absorbed and moisturizing. But I wont repurchase this one.

L'occitane Amande Pomme Velvet Face Fluid

Been using this since my lazy days...this light yet moisturizing fluid is suitable for my combination face. Doesn't make my face too oily, yet provides enough moisture. It has SPF of 40 as well. However, won't repurchase, as nowadays I prefer separate moisturizer and sunblock. Right now I am using moisturizer still from Amande Pomme -the non SPF version.

Kao Essential Damage Care Rich Premier Shampoo

I had high hopes for this one, especially that is promises smooth & manageable hair. it contains honey, shea butter and sunflower oil. Sounds wonderful. however... it doesnt work on me as much as I would like it to be. Somehow it makes my hair tangle more- that's the opposite of smooth and manageable . I am so glad I have finished this bottle, surely I wont be repurchasing. I still have the conditioner and leave-on serum from the line which I havent try...lets hope the conditioner and serum works better.

NUXE Huile Prodigieuse OR – Multi Usage Dry Oil

Nuxe is drugstore brand from France, Huile Prodigieuse happen to be one of their flagship product. I’ve heard nice recommendations about this dry oil, but never tried it myself. As it is exxxxppeeennssiiivveeeee in Singapore. But I can’t contain myself seeing the shimmering golden glitter suspended in amber oil...so, I grabbed it.
The website says...
‘EFFECTIVE BY NATURE
Huile Prodigieuse Or is a dry oil with a unique superactivated formula combining 30% Precious Plant Oils and Vitamin E to nourish, repair and soften face, body and hair in a single gesture.
PRECIOUS BENEFITS FOR MY SKIN
Face and body are soft and velvety. Hair is supple, glossy and full of volume. Thanks to its small golden particles, your skin glitters and reveals its beauty whenever you move.
STAR ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
A unique cocktail of 6 Precious Plant Oils (Borage, St Johnswort, Sweet Almond, Camellia, Hazelnut, Macadamia) with a subtle fragrance for a velvety skin, silky hair and an improved overall aspect of stretch marks. Its iridescent golden particles illuminate all skin and hair types with shiny reflections.
IS THIS PRODUCT FOR ME?
This oil is suitable for all skin and hair types regardless of age.’
Sounds fantastic isn’t it? And with that pretty golden shimmer, how can I say no? So... most probably you have noticed the two layers of colors in the picture. The golden shimmer is deposited at the bottom, and you have to shake it (just a little bit will do) before spraying it. My 100ml bottle comes with spray nozzle, just like perfumes. I believe the smaller bottle (50mL or so) does not come with the nozzle, but simple opening on the top of the bottle. But, I had some bad experience with nozzle spraying products a little too generously and ended up messing my application. Not with this one. It dispenses just nice amount of oil every time. I never feel like I wasted my precious oil drops ;) Texture wise both regular and OR (gold) version is the same.
The website says this multipurpose dry oil can be used for body, face and hair. So far I’ve tried on skin and hair and I am loving it... so, the multipurpose claim checked out, how about the ‘dry oil’. I tried finding out what it is...but i still have no idea. Do drop a message if you know what is the difference between dry and non dry/wet oil means...
The oil has this soft lovely white flower smell, still noticeable after application. Don’t be scared with the glitter, as it doesn’t really show. Just give my skin that nice golden glow without being too obvious. The shimmer doesn’t transfer to clothing too! Best of all, this product get absorbed nicely, no sticky oily mess. Ah.. bliss
This one made it to my essential list, along side with The Body Shop Body butter and Badger Lip & Body Balm
In summary...
Packaging: bottle with nozzle spray (100mL bottle)
Color variations: just the oil or OR (with golden shimmer)
Collateral Damage: SGD 85 for 100mL of OR (golden) version, regular version will be cheaper
Texture: light, easily absorbed. Gives skin lovely golden glow. Slightly frangranced
Moisturizing: 4/5, non sticky yet moisturizing!
Is it worth it?
Yes if... you like lightly fragranced oil, you want slight shimmer to brighten up your day, you have ultra dry skin
No if... you have oily skin, you don’t like mess oil might leads you, you don’t like the price, Ha!

Les Soins Bio Plante System Nourishing Lip care

As usual, the non-standard packaging caught my attention. The name is mouthful and I’m sure I can’t even pronounce it correctly.
The outer shell is made from paper, but the inside is plastic with clear plastic cap on top. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, throw this tiny plastic cap. As I found out after few days, the paper top is so loose it is almost always not doing its job. This lip balm is definitely not for the handbag.
The brochure says Arkopharma from France has been around for 30 years, making skin care products from plant extracts. This Plante System range are Ecocert certified with 95% plants. Fragrance is natural and it is paraben free, phenoxythenol free and not tested on animals. What more can I ask from a simple lip balm?
I saw 4 options from Plante System range in the shop: Nourishing, Anti Ageing, Colored and Repairing. This Nourishing care balm contains beeswax, sesame oil, argan oil, shea butter and vanilla natural fragrance. The argan oil, especially, is supposed to nourish my lips.
The texture is balmy and not glossy upon application. I kind of like the texture, except it feels slightly heavier than my regular Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm. It has soft vanilla fragrance, detectable only during application.
Aside from the always-loose cap, I find difficulty with the sheer huge size of the balm stick. Kinda hard to apply for me.
I kinda like this one, as it feels nice on my lips...unfortunately the packaging is just too troublesome. This one will become resident bed-side table lip balm.
Packaging: paper on the outer, plastic inside. Very loose cap.
Collateral Damage: SGD 19.9
Texture: balmy, non glossy
Moisturizing: 4/5
Is it worth it?
Yes if... you like moisturizing lip care
No if... you want to carry your lippie in your purse (the cap is tad loose, I guarantee it drop off sooner)

Yves Rocher Moisturizing Cream Lipstick in Rose Galica 61

Bought this one on sale (trying to convince myself it is OK to get another lipstick):
It was on sale...Soooo...it is OK to get this one...I never tried Yves Rocher and yet have heard of good things about it.

The casing is light plastic, which doesn’t impress or disappoint. The lipstick is floral-rose scented, the scent sticks around after application.
Yves Rocher lipstick feels light and slips nicely, it is sheer too. gives just nice slight apricot tint on my lips. It doesn’t last very long thou, about 2-3 hours. In the tube Rose Galica appears nude-apricot with slight golden shimmer, but upon application, the shimmer is not visible.

I do think this is suitable lipstick for my lazy days, sheer and easy to apply. I am never confident applying lipstick without mirror...but with this one, I think I can do it ;)

In summary...
Packaging: light plastic
Color variations: 3/5 I didn’t notice many choices in the shop
Price: IDR 90,000 (that’s about 10 USD, assuming 1USD=9,000IDR)
Texture: light, soft, balm-y
Moisturizing: 3/5
Staying power: 2-3 hours with tea sippings in between
Will I buy more? Yes, if I can find more interesting color

L’occitane en Provence Peony Liquid Shine Lip Colour in Isabelle Riviere 02

I have been using L’occitane perfume and creams for a while now. Loving them alot! How happy I was when I saw they release this last year!

The gloss came inside a cute paper pouch with peony picture in front, too bad I don’t have it with me now. What I like the most from the packaging thou, is the cap, it is plastic but covered in paper with peony variant which inspired the color.
Isabelle Riviere is creamy pink-magenta with teeny weeny golden pearlescent glow. Very lovely. In the beginning, I was rather wary with the color, afraid I wont be able to pull it off. But it applies rather sheer, as you can see in the swatch. I would call it lip gloss, not liquid lipcolor for the sheer-ness.

It is rather thick and sticky. Mine has rather strong flowery fragrance, which goes away few minutes after application. This one doesn’t dry my lips too.

In summary...
Packaging: cute but simple, light clear plastic
Color variations: 2/5 I only saw 4 shades in the shop
Price: (was part of a package)
Texture: thick, but not as thick as MAC’s lipglasses and sticky
Moisturizing: 4/5
Staying power: 2-3 hours with tea sippings in between
Will I buy more? Will try other colors if available

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Rose Frivole 19

This baby is my current favourite lipstick...

As you can see, the package is very YSL, except that the tube is rounded, while the other YSL lipstick lines are squared. I love how I can tell which color inside without opening or checking the lipstick shade 
My camera didn’t manage to really capture the beautiful Rose Frivole shade, that is crème slightly deep baby pink. Rouge Volupte offers many many crème colors, I think everyone can find their crème from the collection.

The lipstick itself is fragranced, ‘mango’ fragrance. It is rather strong, but not annoying. Rouge Volupte applies nicely opaque (left swatch –single swipe, right swatch 2-3 swipes). It is so soft and buttery ... the most moisturizing lipstick I’ve encountered so far! Love love love

Unfortunately (or fortunately for my wallet), I don’t think they sell it in Singaporean beauty halls. I purchased mine in Changi Airport.

In summary...
Packaging: heavy, luxurious golden tube
Color offering: 4/5 they have marvellous crèmes
Price: SGD 35.2
Moisturizing: 4.5/5 the most moisturizing lipstick I have ever tried!
Staying power: 2-3 hours with tea sippings in between, slightly staining on my skin
Will I buy more? Of course! I have some colors on my wishlist already hehe...
